Marcy Leamy

Marcy LeamyWhat is your connection to Georgia Tech?

I have been active with the Georgia Tech Community, and the Woodruff School specifically, for over 15 years. My husband, Michael, is a Georgia Tech Mechanical Engineering Professor, and my son, Maxwell, is a Georgia Tech BME student.

What is your current professional role? Please list a few notable career accomplishments.

I am a Program Manager at Verizon in the Demand Generation and Communications group.

Some of my notable career accomplishments include:

  • I was a manager at one of the first dial-up internet service providers.
  • I was involved in the launch of one of the first satellite phone services, Iridium.
  • When I worked for Homeland Security, I was involved in the stand-up of the newly formed U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)

Why are you passionate about WoW?

Throughout my career in the technology industry, I have often been one of the only women in the room. It was difficult to find women mentors and I found that women were more competitive with each other rather than supportive of each other. I believe there is enough space in the room for all of us and that we need to lift each other up.

What are your hobbies and passions?

My biggest passion is my family and our six rescue animals. I also enjoy cooking, traveling, and of course, eating. I am also part of the Cobb County Community Emergency Response Team.

What is your favorite quote?

“Sometimes the bravest and most important thing you can do is just show up.” -Dr Brené Brown

What advice would you give a young female engineer?

Sit at the table, make your opinion heard. You belong there.
