I decided to pursue Ph.D. research in the Woodruff school primarily because its backing in the core fundamentals of mechanics of materials. Also, the Woodruff School offered me an opportunity to be in an interdisciplinary environment which I considered very important for my future career.
I think the strength of the Woodruff School faculty lies not only in the technicalities of science and technology, but also in the corresponding human aspects of overall individual growth. I learned that one needs to be a technically strong person as well as humanly intelligent in order to be an outstanding researcher. I enjoyed every one of the interactions I had with staff, faculty, and other graduate students. I continue to interact with the Woodruff School faculty, particularly those in the mechanics of materials research area.
Being in the same business, I know that the Woodruff School attracts the best graduate students. Experimental facilities in nano as well as nano-bio at the Woodruff School compete with the best in the business. Georgia Tech's location in Atlanta, which is the southeast's premier business city, is a bonus. I know many graduate students who started their flourishing careers at Georgia Tech. I continue to say proudly that I did my Ph.D. at Georgia Tech's Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering, and I always know that I make a good impression when I say so.
