The good reputation of Georgia Tech provides an inroad into many companies. Also, through my research, I learned the analytical skills needed to solve open-ended problems, which can be applied to future research endeavors.
One of the strengths of the graduate program is the Graduate Co-Operative Program. It allowed me to get a taste of industry, and it was helpful to get a break from studies after four years of undergraduate work. After going to Georgia Tech for six months I worked at IBM for six months, then came back to Georgia Tech.
One other strength of the program is the flexibility in picking classes to define your course of study. A program can be tailored to fit your specific interests.
The program allows flexibility in the plan of study. The faculty, for the most part, were knowledgeable in their field of specialty. The students came from academically challenging backgrounds. As far as the facilities in the machining area, I saw a vast improvement during my tenure at Georgia Tech. Recent equipment purchases allow for a variety of research in many different areas.
