When I was trying to decide between schools, my visit to Georgia Tech for a recruiting weekend was what sealed the deal. The Woodruff School staff and faculty were incredibly friendly, and the research projects that were going on were interesting and diverse. The entire weekend was well organized and fun.
The variety of coursework available let me pursue all the topics I was interested in over the course of my time at Tech. My time as a research assistant and as a teaching assistant let me experience some of the different aspects of industry and academia - I worked directly with engineers in industry at Ford, but also got to teach classes and design experiments.
The school is very flexible to the graduate student's needs. Switching between research and teaching positions is an easy transition and the faculty is receptive to letting students pursue their own tailored curricula. I would say the graduate program at the Woodruff School is exceptional. On the whole, the faculty was supportive and advanced in their fields. My fellow students were also impressive as a whole - they provided an excellent forum to bounce ideas off of for both class work and research.
