My graduate research experience at the Woodruff School prepared me for a diverse career which has thus far involved private industry and academia. The world-class research group in Acoustics and Vibrations, and in particular my advisor Dr. Jerry Ginsberg, provided an environment in which innovative ideas were generated, pursued, and investigated. This provided an excellent basis for my work after graduation as a Research Scientist at BBN Corporation, where I was challenged by an ever-changing array of projects in different areas. It also prepared me for my current position as an Associate Professor at Boston University, where a portion of my research involves ideas which I generated in the creative and intellectually stimulating environment at the Woodruff School. In addition, the Woodruff School did an excellent job of preparing me as an educator by providing for funded teaching opportunities with a faculty mentor and by conducting interesting teaching workshops and discussion groups.
A major strength of the graduate program is the wide array of intellectually stimulating research projects funded by industry and government, as well as the freedom given graduate students to seek out the research projects which they feel best-suited to pursue. Another strength is the high quality of teaching found in the graduate courses. In most cases the professor teaching the course is a world-renowned authority on the subject and, in some cases, has written a widely accepted graduate textbook on the subject.
I would rate the graduate program and the faculty in the top five Schools in the country. (I am not quite sure how to rate the student body or facilities.)
