I came to the Woodruff School with a specific career in mind — independent consulting. The faculty taught me the skills of traditional research and its presentation and how to implement solutions to the engineering problems facing my consulting practice.
One important aspect of the graduate program at Georgia Tech is the flexibility to create a highly specialized and unique program of study. Before attending Tech, I was accepted into several other graduate programs. However, I wasn't met with the same enthusiasm shown by the Woodruff School when I inquired about crossing disciplines. I was able to enroll in several individual study courses outside of the Woodruff School, and apply them toward my graduation requirements.
The faculty is composed of such a diverse group of professors that I found more than one with compatible research interests when I was seeking a thesis advisor. The faculty was tuned into my needs as a student, beyond the usual scope of teaching and researching. For example, my thesis advisor takes the time to specifically groom all of his graduate students for their desired career and encourages them to be involved in related projects outside of the university. This example was not isolated.
My graduate school experience at Georgia Tech was an extremely positive one. Since the day I enrolled, I have not regretted my decision to attend. The Woodruff School faculty and administration treated me as an individual and maintained an active interest in my education and outside interests. I have never experienced this much individual attention at school or work. The Woodruff School also worked very hard to accommodate what I deemed important in my education. As a result, I now have the career that I always wanted and I'm positive that if I had attended any other university, I would not have the fun job I'm doing now.
