Yves H. Berthelot is currently Professor in Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He received a Diplome d'ingenieur in 1981 from the Université de Technologie de Compiègne (France), a M.S. in 1982 from the Ins titute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) at the University of Southampton (England) and a Ph.D. in 1985 from the University of Texas at Austin. He joined the faculty of the Georgia Institute of Techgnology in 1985, was promoted to Associate Professor in 1990, and to Professor in 1996.

Dr. Berthelot's main research interests are in the area of laser instrumentation for structural acoustics, nondestructive testing and material characterization by noncontact methods (laser ultrasonics). He is also interested in diffraction and scattering problems of outdoor sound propagation. His research has been supported by ONR, NSF, NASA, DOE, Ford, and Michelin among others. He holds two patents and has published extensively in referred journals. He is actively involved in the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) where he serves on several committees. He was the general chairman of the 139th ASA meeting held in Atlanta in the Spring of 2000. He also served as President (1986-87) and Secretary (1988-90). of the Georgia Chapter of the ASA.
