ME graduate student Phil Varney was recently selected to receive the 2016 CETL/BP Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award at Georgia Tech's Celebrate Teaching Day. This award is the only institute-wide recognition for teaching assistants and symbolizes Georgia Tech's commitment to promoting exemplary teaching. The award is only given to one graduate TA each year.

Phil Varney is currently a head TA for ME 4056 (the senior lab course in the required ME undergraduate curriculum). In addition to leading lab sections of ME 4056, Phil is in charge of mentoring other TAs, managing schedule conflicts, and general maintenance of the lab. He takes his role one step further, however, by finding ways to significantly improve the 4056 course and student experience.

The Woodruff School community is exceptionally proud of Phil and we thank him for all his hard work.
