Introduction
Mechatronics, a truly multi-disciplinary approach to engineering, has become the key to many different products and processes. Modern systems have reached a level of sophistication which would have been hard to imagine using traditional methods. The integration of mechanics, electronics, control and computing exploits and exceeds the relative advantages of single disciplines, and when they are integrated, the synergy ensures that performances reach unprecedented levels. The importance of Mechatronic Engineering will further increase due to consumer demands. Thus it has a vital role to play in the new millennium.
The Mechatronics Forum aims to continue the successful series of biennial conferences with the seventh offering, Mechatronics 2000, held in Atlanta, Georgia. Recent venues were in Budapest (Hungary '94), Minho (Portugal'96) and Skövde (Sweden '98). A wide range of high quality papers is sought from the international Mechatronics community. Industrial contributions, particularly case studies describing state-of-the-art of technology, are especially welcome. Preference will be given to papers which highlight synergistic aspects in the application, analysis or simulation, and education.
The Mechatronics Forum Committee looks forward to seeing you at the conference in Atlanta, Georgia, either as an author and/or as a delegate in September 2000.
