Student Involvement

GTMS is dependent upon the expertise and assistance of dedicated students from all academic disciplines.

Our goal is to provide students the opportunity to utilize their theoretical knowledge in real-life situations by designing, building, and testing racing vehicles in the annual Formula SAE competition. GT Motorsports creates an environment where students can pursue interests that would normally be unattainable elsewhere. This provides for the development of new design processes and concepts in the construction of the Formula SAE vehicles that can be applied to future employment. Students also learn leadership and project management skills while developing team structure in a safe, effective learning environment for all members.

Employers recognize gt motorsports as a research and development team. We are one of the few engineering teams on campus which can provide a test bed for developing research projects. In addition to the research opportunities the practical experience gained while working with our team will compliment your classroom knowledge. Adding your experience in our team to your resume could help your chances of getting your dream job.

We can give you the opportunity to gain exposure with our sponsors and possible employment in co-op jobs, internships, and full-time positions. Many GTMS alum, such as Paul Allen of GM and Derek Garland of Slumberger, actively recruit team members remembering the hard work and dedication this team produces. Top-name executives and engineers, such as Bob Lutz, Vice Chairman Emeritus of Chrysler Corporation and Donald E. Peterson, Chairman and CEO of Ford Motor Company, often visit Georgia Tech as distinguished lecturers. gt motorsports uses such opportunities to provide exposure for our members.
