Research Areas and Descriptors

Background

Began at Tech in Spring 1985 as an Assistant Professor.

Research

Over the past twenty years Dr. Green's main focus has been in the design aspects of the mechanics and dynamics of rotating machinery with a particular emphasis on bearings, seals, viscoelastic seals and dampers, and various aspects of rotodynamics, tribology, and diagnosis. His recent and current research projects involve analytical and numerical investigations of stability and steady-state responses of gas lubricated bearings, such as those found in the read/write head of a magnetic hard disk, diagnostics and control of face seal vibrations as measured by eddy current proximity probes, finite-element modeling and failure analysis, and failure analysis of thrust washers that lock up planetary gears in automatic transmissions of light trucks.
