Director of Design Innovation and Instruction
The George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech is seeking to fill an Academic Professional position. This position will support the instruction and innovation mission of the Woodruff School with a specific focus on the integration of engineering design creativity, hands-on projects, and the undergraduate curriculum. The successful candidate will be expected to perform a combination of teaching and administrative responsibilities, including teaching in the School’s design course sequence which ranges from an introductory freshman course to an integrative senior capstone design course.
The successful candidate is expected to assist and advise faculty on the formulation and evaluation of design projects, interface with our corporate partners in the solicitation of design projects and funds, and supervise the operation of the School’s design studios and the associated teaching assistants. Hands-on design and manufacturing skills are beneficial to the educational mission of these design studios. In addition, excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required to interact effectively with a wide constituency including undergraduate and graduate students, multidisciplinary faculty, industry partners, and administrators.
Qualifications: Although a Ph.D. degree in engineering or a related field is desirable, a candidate with an M.S. degree and a minimum of five years of relevant industry experience in design and/or development will be considered.
