THE 2004 WOODRUFF SCHOOL

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS

Thomas A. Barrow, Jr. (BME 1948)

Mr. Barrow received his BSME from Georgia Tech in 1948. Upon graduation, he worked for a manufacturer's representative in Atlanta selling heating and air conditioning accessory equipment. He left to start his own firm in 1955. Since that time, the company has grown to one of the largest of its type, including nine offices in Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee.

Mr. Barrow is a registered professional engineer, and has contributed to the design of new types of equipment as well as assisted in the selection of equipment in major construction projects. He is active and has held offices in various professional and civic organizations including the: American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers; National Society of Professional Engineers; Atlanta Builders Exchange; Kiwanis Club; Georgia Tech Alumni Association; Northside Shepherd Center, and Trinity Presbyterian Church.

After being educated to be an engineer and spending his early years in training as a salesperson, Mr. Barrow found himself in a management position with a workforce that eventually was more than 170 people. Interestingly enough, he found this one of the things that he enjoyed most. Working with other people and helping them build their careers became one of his major goals. In developing Tom Barrow Co., Mr. Barrow gives credit to the people that work there, their commitment to integrity, and their concern for each other.
