DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS
Joseph H. Anderer (BSME
1947)
Joseph
Anderer was transferred into the
NROTC program at Georgia Tech in
1943 and was subsequently commissioned
a Second Lieutenant in the U.S.
Marine Corps. He returned to Georgia
Tech in 1946 and graduated with
a BME degree in 1947 and added a
BIE degree in 1948. He then began
his engineering career with the
Atlantic Refining Company, and in
1956 he joined the American Viscose
Corporation as head of their textile
development laboratories. In 1964
he joined the Celanese Corporation
and became executive vice president
of textile marketing in 1966. In
1969 Mr. Anderer joined Revlon Corporation
as a director and president of their
worldwide cosmetics and fragrance
operations, and in 1973 he became
a director and president of M. Lowenstein,
who had substantial worldwide textile
interests. In 1978 Mr. Anderer formed
the Grendel Corporation of Greenwood,
South Carolina and bought the Warren
Corporation of Stafford Springs,
Connecticut. He served as Chairman
and CEO of both textile companies
until his retirement in 1987.
Mr. Anderer continues
to serve as a director of several
public and private corporations
as well as a number of nonprofit
foundations, including president
of the Northern Textile Association
and a trustee of the American Museum
of Textile History. He served on
the Georgia Tech National Advisory
Board for six years and was its
chairman in 1982. He was also a
member of the Mechanical Engineering
Advisory Board in 1983 and 1984
and has been an active member of
the New York Georgia Tech Club for
many years. In 1996 he was inducted
into the Georgia Tech College of
Engineering Hall of Fame.
Mr. Anderer lives in
Naples, Florida and Wolfeboro, New
Hampshire with this wife of 55 years,
T'Lene Brinson Anderer, formerly
of Savannah. They have three children
and four grandchildren.
About the
Award
The Woodruff School Distinguished
Alumnus Award was inaugurated in
1989 to recognize an outstanding
alumnus of the Woodruff School.
The names of the winners are on
permanent display in the lobby of
the MRDC Building at Georgia Tech.
